PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT (LOCAL PLANNING SCHEMES) AMENDMENT REGULATIONS 2026 RELATING TO CONVENIENCE STORES AND TOBACCO SALES

Published on Monday, 26 October 2026 at 1:58:06 PM

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is seeking community feedback on proposed changes to planning regulations relating to convenience stores that sell tobacco products.
The proposed amendments would require most new convenience stores selling tobacco to obtain planning approval, providing greater regulatory oversight and allowing opportunities for community input.
Existing stores with a valid tobacco retailer's licence would not be affected.
Community members are encouraged to review the proposed changes and have their say. Consultation closes on Friday 4 December 2026. Feedback can be submitted through the Have Your Say WA consultation process.
